Mr . Nihalani on Udta Punjab issue

I’ve heard Anurag Kashyap has grabbed cash from AAP to display Punjab in negative light ," Mr . Nihalani stated .

Censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani today ignored allegations that he was under any political stress from the Punjab govt over the release of “Udta Punjab .”

The Abhishek Chaubey-directed film is in the center of a censorship line and while its producers are battling with the board , political parties have stated that Mr . Nihalanihave acted under the direction of the state govt .

Among the makers , Anurag Kashyap , has frankly slammed the censor board and also its superior for allegedly challenging 89 cuts in the movie , apart from telling them to drop the term ‘Punjab’ from the name and the film .

Using a potshot at Mr . Kashyap , Mr . Nihalani stated he has detected that the filmmaker had grabbed cash from Aam Aadmi Party to show Punjab in negative light .

“I’ve observed Anurag Kashyap has grabbed cash from AAP to display Punjab in negative light ,” Mr . Nihalani stated .

In the meantime AAP's Ashish Ketan declared that independence of illustration really should not be curbed and refuted Mr . Nihalani's statements . "The Modi govt should nottake up unclean politics with 'Udta Punjab' ," he stated .

When questioned about Kashyap’s comments that he actions similar to a dictator , he stated , “I can’t talk about someone’s private viewpoint . It is their very own option . Folks are battling over independence of speech patterns and expression . It’s their duty . However a movie would go to people exhibition and we behave based on the guidelinescreated by the govt .’”

When questioned either it was correct that he had informed the producers to drop ‘Punjab’ from the name , Mr . Nihalani stated , “When they have got place a disclaimer that the movie has fictitious figures however the entire film is on Punjab so they have captured terms from Punjab . . . Then we certainly have a good reason and according to therules we are able to cut . That’s why we have cut .”

The producers had also professed that Mr . Nihalani aggressively rejected to hand them the notice , which pointed out the cuts . Mr . Nihalani , however , asserted that themakers them-selves did not pick up the notice until today and alternatively went to media channels people making the issue public .

“We been with with the makers on Monday and informed all of them relating to the cuts . They said , ‘If we get cuts , will you provide us the certificate ?’ I said , ‘Of course yes’However they did not bring in to pick up the notice . They immediately headed over to media . Today they arrived in collect the notice .” The makers have now relocated to the Bombay high court .

It is not for the very first time that Mr . Nihalani has restricted horns with filmmakers over censorship problems . He continues to be at the centre of debate since his appointment at the start of the last year .

He was slammed for restricting the length of a kiss scene is James Bond movie “Spectre” , producing cuts Anushka Sharma’s “NH10” , “Aligarh” and other Bollywood and Hollywood movies .
